Pavan Kalyan, the president of the youth wing of Prajarajyam party, who created a flutter by attacking Congress leaders, on Thursday stuck to his guns despite the continuing widespread protests from ruling party workers.
An unfazed-Pavan said on Thursday that what he had echoed was a very mild version of what people actually talk about chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and other Congress leaders in the state. “I did not say anything new. The people have been expressing their contempt for them in still stronger words. So, I need not be apologetic for having echoed the people’s version,” Pavan said even as Congress workers staged protests against his remarks and burnt his effigy in many parts of the state on Thursday.
Pavan said the words he used against either the government or waqf minister Md Shabbir Ali were not his invention. All these charges have been made by opposition leaders, civil rights activists and people’s artists like Gaddar,” Pavan said.
“I spoke of Shabbir Ali grabbing waqf land only after listening to the versions of hundreds of poor Muslims. Every Muslim in Hyderabad knows what Shabbir Ali has been doing as the minister in charge of waqf properties,” he added.
He said he would not regret his vitriolic attack against the Congress government as the inputs were provided by the people and the opposition parties themselves. “I don’t need to tender apology to anyone. I will stand by whatever I said on Wednesday,” he said.
