Silambattam, stars Silambarasan and debutante Sana Khan in the lead roles. Cinematographer Saravanan directs this film which has Simbu in the role of a Hindu, Brahmin priest. Prabhu Ganesan plays the role of an inspector in 'Silambattam'. Veteran Nedumudi Venu will appear as the grandpa of Simbu, the priest. Sana Khan and Sneha are the female Yuvan Shankar Raja composes the music. It will be the first time, that Simbu plays a Hindu priest. It is also said that Simbu is donning a double role.As a temple priest in the first half and a diametrically opposite character in the second, Silambaattam is expected to showcase Simbu in an entirely different way.
Simbu is known to interfere with his directors in shaping a particular scene or 'altering' the storyline in his earlier films. His intervention does keep his directors on tenterhooks as to what changes would he suggest at any given time.
Director Saravanan, who directs Simbu in 'Silambattam', is said to have been hugely upset at the star's suggestions and interferences. So much so that he has almost reconciled to the fate of remaining a mute spectator at the shooting spot.
The soundtrack of Silambattam was released on October 20, 2008. The background score has been composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja along with five melodious songs.
Already before the audio launch, there were released three preview songs of the film 'Nallamdhana' – the remix of the evergreen classic song from the film 'Thillanamohanambal', 'Silambattam', a typical hero-glorification song and 'Where is the Party' a peppy number with mischief as the backdrop have been set, which were going well at the leading FM stations in Chennai.
The songs from the albums were released to four leading FM stations in Chennai, with one song per station, in attempt to popularize it five days before the official launch. Silambattam is going to release on November 14 2008. Budget of the film is 40 crores.
